MA Practice Two - Celine

Celine is a more reserved brand compared to others I have research such as Fleet Ilya and Una Burke.

The designs are much less structural, there is depth suggested by shape and colour and the use of lines within the bags. These shapes seem to suggest an element of shadow and dimension.

Although the bags are simple shapes, the clever use of folded fabric and pleats down the side of the gusset creates a slightly different shape and space within the accessory.

Another thing I have discussed within my shape design is the use of panels when introducing my printed designs. Celine have a couple of designs which show panelled pieces using different colours and textures.

I haven't yet decided which areas of my bag designs should involve pattern however I don't want to ruin the design of the bags with an over powering pattern, using panels could be a good way of integrating my print designs into the structures but I think that I will have to do this very carefully and sparingly.

In comparison, Celine handbags are slightly more flamboyant than their leather accessories. Some of the totes are unusual shapes, by extending the side pieces of the bags to involve more fabric, they become more of a 'container' for the contents of the bag. This is exaggerated by cut outs and stitching to create an unusual shape - something slightly less conventional.
